Life Isn’t Serious

Why do we fall into the deep, dark, depressing trap as life being “serious”?

And then, we find the other parts of life where your “playing or relaxing” you feel bad, because you’re not doing anything. You get that little voice inside you’re head that whispers, “What are we doing this for, you can’t be enjoying yourself having fun, we have something to do, man!”

Well, here’s why. We have been led to believe, by being taught our entire lives, that life is serious! Life has this end goal that you MUST achieve, and must be working towards. If your dreams can’t make you money, well forget it! Then you go on, feeling like your living your life as a duty, or a big chore, that you just have to do.

Guess what, we’ve been fooled. Life actually has no ultimate goal that we HAVE to attain. We’re told we need a nice house, with a nice paying, secure job, and a family. By the way, your at your job most of the day, and never really are able to enjoy the materials you buy with your money, or spend time with your family.

When you arrive at this end point, this success you’ve been working for your entire life, you find that you feel like you always have. That feeling like there is just something missing, just one other thing you need to feel complete. Because right now, just isn’t good enough. Im not rich enough, happy enough, I need more.

You’re living for the future, and missing out on the beauty of what’s actually happening now. This amazing, rich experience that always has been, and always will be.

This now moment. The only time you feel absolutely complete and whole.

Heres a quote from the great Alan Watts, who’s teaching inspired this post.

Society has tricked us into life as being this great journey, with a specific point at the end, where you can finally “make it”. When THEN, you can truly live, and enjoy life.

When we get there we look back on our life, and noticed we’ve missed out on everything, and all the beautiful experiences where we had the chance to fully live.

That’s because we’ve always been working for some thing, that will complete ourselves.

We are already totally complete.

Find out by letting go of the past and the future, and joining in on the dance of the present moment.

Life is a journey, but a beautiful one, where you’re supposed to dance and play the whole way through.

Let Go and Be Free

In the same way that a cloud appears in the sky, without trying to be or look a certain way, is what it means to let go.

I can’t tell you that you should let go, because you trying to let go isn’t letting go. One must become like a cloud.

Letting go is an art.

It is when you are fully absorbed with your experience in the present moment, without any judgement.

Now, what is judgement on present experience?

It is the memory of past experiences and the knowledge you have acquired along the way. These memories are making guesses and judgements on what this present experience is, if its good, bad, pleasurable, or uncomfortable. All judgements arise based on past memories of what you think an experience is. Yes, judging something as “good” is a judgement.

Labeling an expereince  “good” creates the experience of something being “bad.”

Now since you are taking your present experience and comparing it to different past experiences in your life you are never fully living now.

Living fully in the present moment is such a beautiful peaceful experience, because it’s free of any label.

It’s free of “me” interfering and judging it.

If you let go of yourself, who you believe yourself to be, and how this moment should be…. is when you find your true self.

Your true self is self-less.

Your true state is the state of no-self. No judgement. No thinker of thoughts.

This post was inspired by the book I am currently reading, The Wisdom of Insecurity, by Alan Watts. It’s a brilliant book that goes into detail on the reason why were constantly battling states of anxiety and fear, and goes deeply into the nature of them. I recommend for anyone who is struggling and trying to find themselves, or just anyone who is in for a great read.

Existence is Quite Weird

Existence is quite weird. A lot of the time this is what’s going through my mind, just how weird it is that well, here I am. This entire Universe that most likely goes on forever, and ever and ever, created me. Im a part of it, involved with it. I am it!

Children know this. You see, the wise comes from the new. Just like the new flowers of spring, kids hold the secret of life. You see them playing in such weird ways, loving every second of it. Only living in the NOW. Not judging anything at all, just experiencing. They show all of their emotions without thinking about it, because they trust themselves, and their body. But then we tell them no, and teach them the “correct” way to act.

IMG_0456I feel like most people definitely do not understand the circumstance they find themselves in. They don’t question and look into the concept of existence THEMSELVES, they just believe what they are told and go with it. It is pretty overwhelming. But it will fill your life with wonder and awe.

I see everyone taking this way too seriously, running around trying to accomplish things, to feel complete. Chasing this thing they call success. But, they’re missing the point, because they already have it all, they exist. All you need to do is to stop living in the future or the past, and let this moment be. This is where you will find the happiness you are searching for.

But happiness cannot be sought. It is not something you can obtain, or win.

The point of life is life! It’s the rich experience of what’s actually happening RIGHT NOW.

There is really nothing to do, or be! You are already IT.

You’re literally the Universe looking at itself.

The Universe experiencing love, joy, excitement, pain, misery, and all the other fruits of life, because they are all beautiful aspects of existence.

I recommend the book by Alan Watts, The Book on the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are. It’s one of my favorite books, that helped with my understanding of who I really am, and it goes into amazing detail about your connection with the Universe.

Once you have this realization, how can you go back to “normal” everyday life where you’re worried about he smallest things?

To understand that the Universe is INFINITE, and that you are the Universe. Well that means that you are no less than an infinite being, with infinite possibilities.

“Nothingness is really like the nothingness of space, which contains the whole Universe. All the suns, and the stars and mountains, and rivers, and goodmen and badmen, and the animals, and the insects, and the whole bit. All are contained in void. So out of this void comes everything and you’re it. What else could you be?” – Alan Watts
